Effects and benefits

  • Calming and relaxing: The lavender and green tea both contribute calming properties, making this blend ideal for easing stress, reducing anxiety, and promoting relaxation. Some even find it helpful for sleeplessness.
  • Soothing for digestion: The peppermint in the tea is traditionally used to aid digestion and soothe the stomach.
  • Immune support: Green tea is rich in antioxidants, while lemon is an excellent source of vitamin C, both of which support a healthy immune system.
  • Energy and focus: While calming, the green tea and mint can also gently invigorate and improve focus.

Caffeine and acidity

  • Caffeine: The tea contains caffeine from the green tea base, though less than black tea. For a caffeine-free option, some blends use a herbal base instead of green tea.
  • Acidity: Plain, home-brewed green tea is generally less acidic than black tea and other common beverages like coffee. However, adding lemon will increase the overall acidity. Some people with acid reflux may need to monitor their intake of mint and citrus.

Instructions

  • Heat the water. In a pot or temperature-controlled kettle, heat the water to between 175°F and 185°F. Do not let it come to a full boil, as this can make green tea bitter.
  • Steep the herbs. Add the lavender and peppermint to a tea ball or infuser. Place the infuser in your mug and pour the hot water over it. Let the herbs steep for at least 5 minutes to release their flavor.
  • Add the green tea. Remove the herb infuser and add the green tea bag or loose-leaf tea to the hot water. Steep for 1–3 minutes. Oversteeping the green tea can also cause bitterness.
  • Finish the brew. Squeeze in the juice from half a lemon and stir. If using honey, wait until the tea cools slightly before mixing it in to preserve the honey's beneficial properties.
  • Serve and garnish. Pour the tea into your favorite mug, add a fresh lemon slice, and enjoy.
